Brahms: Akademische Festouverture, Op. 80 (Academic Festival Overture)

Join the GSO and the whole world in celebrating Oktoberfest with great German masterpieces!  Our special guest artist, Furman University’s Professor of Music, David Gross, will present his insightful interpretation of Brahms’ majestic and monumental Second Piano Concerto. The joyous First Symphony of a young Beethoven is followed by the boiling “Academic Festival Overture,” where Brahms uses four popular student’s “drinking songs” which are praising youth, love and life. After this festive conclusion we invite you to a complimentary beer tasting generously provided by Thomas Creek Brewery.
