Edvard Tchivzhel, conductor
Nikolai Demidenko, piano
- Aleksandr Scriabin: Piano Concerto in F sharp minor, Op. 20
- Sergei Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 2 in E minor, Op. 27
The second program reunites two former classmates, both prodigious pianist-composers from pre-Revolution Moscow: Rachmaninoff, flamboyant and tormented neo-Romantic, and Scriabin, mystic and visionary. Returning Chopin master Demidenko will perform and early work by the composer often called the Russian Chopin. Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Symphony follows – nostalgic, gloriously melodic, known for one of the most heartbreakingly memorable themes in the Romantic repertory.
